I have fished from the time I was old enough to. My Dad and Mom always included me on our fishing trips. I have fished all my life. Before I retired from Susanville, Ca. in 1991, I lived on the road to Eagle Lake and fished it when I could and other parts of that area. When I retired, I moved to Redding, Ca. so I would have more spring and fall without snow. That's when I started fly fishing. I joined the Shasta Fly Fishers in 1996. That's when I learned so much from our club about fly fishing. I enrolled in the fly tying class. The next few years I helped coach the class and learned more. I was the Shasta Fly Fishers, Fly Tyer of the year in 2003. It's not that I am a great tyer, I tie flies that I catch fishing on and live to let them go for another day for someone else. Not long after I started tying, I was introduced to Jay Fair's materials. I bought a bunch of it and it improved my
catching. His dying of the many different colors and the quality of his material are superb. I tied many of his patterns and came up with one of my own that I call my Eagle Lake Tulle Fly. One morning on Eagle Lake, I landed five large rainbows and broke off the the sixth with the same fly. I fish mostly Northern California, Idaho and Montana. I love tying at the shows. I am going to be 72 this month and I hope to be doing this for many years to come.
